Within
the Philippines there are currently more than 440,000 hectares of
land covered by approved mining tenements yet the potential for
development of our natural resources remains immense. Only 1.4 percent
of the total land area of the country is covered by mining permits
and 9 million more hectares - around 30 percent of the total land
mass - represents geologically prospective areas of metallic minerals
including copper, gold, nickel, chromite and others. This includes:
- 6 highly
prospective mineral districts: Cordillera, Bicol, Palawan, Western
Visayas, Surigao and Davao;
- Other prospective
mineral areas include: Nueva Viscaya, Isabela, Zambales, South
Cotabato and Zamboanga provinces.
